Reacting to Aaron Rodgers Most Recent Appearance on the Pat McAfee Show
Aaron Rodgers made a familiar Tuesday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show to give us fans some life updates, and talk about what his first couple weeks as a Steeler have been like.
Probably the biggest soundbite that came out of this Aaron Rodgers Tuesday came when Boston Connor asked if this would be Aaron Rodgers last year in the NFL, to which he responded: “Yeah, I’m pretty sure this is it. Ya know, that’s why we just did a one-year deal.”
It seems strange for the longest-tenured quarterback in the NFL to nonchalantly drop that he’s retiring after this season 20 minutes into a surprise interview on a random Tuesday, but Aaron Rodgers is nothing if not unique. In his 20 year career, Aaron Rodgers has solidified himself as one of, if not the most talented thrower(s) of a football that has ever graced planet Earth. He is a Super Bowl Champion, Super Bowl MVP, and a 4x league MVP; ranking 7th all time in passing with almost 63,000 yards. Interestingly enough, if he stays healthy, he should be able to pass Ben Roethlisberger this season who ranks 5th all time with 64,088 yards.
Throughout his interview with Pat McAfee and the boys, Rodgers made it a point to constantly drive home his point that he couldn’t be happier to end his career with one of the “cornerstone” franchises in the NFL. We know what the city of Pittsburgh means to football fans and the NFL, but when an outsider comes in and reminds us of the aura that surrounds our franchise, it’s always music to my ears, and Aaron Rodgers says all the right things in that regard. Also, Rodgers has always talked very glowingly of head coach Mike Tomlin, but they’re taking their football bromance to new heights this summer. He made it a point to tell Pat McAfee multiple times that Mike Tomlin is the biggest reason that he’s in Pittsburgh right now; even referring to Coach T. as his friend on a few occasions.
Since signing with the Steelers, Aaron Rodgers has basically said that he wants the 2025 season to be about having fun, and riding off into the sunset with love and peace after a long career. I love that he has told the world that his intention is to retire after this season, and it seems like, right now, the football world is eating up what’s going on in Pittsburgh. It’s a fun thought that maybe Aaron Rodgers can have a John-Elway/Peyton-Manning-like ending to his career, and go on one last Super Bowl run before retiring. I don’t think that’s a likely outcome, but I’m the same guy that said that the Aaron-Rodgers-led Steelers can win 11+ games this year based on the schedule, and I stand by that. I suppose that if the Steelers won 11 games, and found themselves in the playoffs, anything could happen at that point.
One last thing that I wanted to highlight about Aaron’s appearance on the PMS was the perceived comradery that’s seemingly building already with his teammates. There’s a point in the interview where he basically name drops the entire offense and talked about his excitement to work with guys individually. Some names you may not expect that he shouted out: BIG Darnell Washington, Connor Heyward, Broderick Jones, and Robert Woods.
There are plenty of talking points throughout this interview that have nothing to do with football; most notably his recent marriage to his mystery partner that everyone seems to be very curious about for some reason. I don’t care about that…I just hope he’s ready to go next month. But, if you wanna hear Aaron Rodgers speak on that and a whole lot more, check out the whole interview above.
